Ram trx price5/5/2023 ![]() Its relatively prodigious 8,100-pound towing maximum is also dwarfed by the Lightning’s 10,000-pound limit. You could, and rightly maybe should argue that the TRX’s ability to burn gas is an advantage in the off-road world, because finding a DC Fast charger in the middle of nowhere will remain a challenge, but even so, the Lightning’s 2,235-pound payload should make the TRX blush at its puny 1,310-pound capacity. The R1T also has 835 horsepower, overshadowing the Ram’s 702 horses. Speaking of which, the Rivian’s R1T’s 908 pound-feet of torque happen to arrive instantly, at 0 rpm, while it takes the combusting Hemi until 4,800 rpm to yield 650 pound-feet. Or, put another way, the numbers don’t lie. The TRX’s official claim is also 4.5 seconds, though some publications have fired the Ram to that mark in under four flat. Now the Rivian R1T flies to 60mph in the low 3-second range, and the F-150 Lightning isn’t far behind, at 4.5 seconds. Just before the electric truck wave hit, the 4×4-only TRX would’ve been the fastest pickup on earth. The TRX draws much of its interior from the regular Ram 1500, but that’s no bad thing as its one of the nicest cabins on the market. Another issue? The new breed of electric supertrucks like the Rivian R1T and Hummer EV, at least one of which can annihilate the TRX in nearly all on-road performance stats. While 132.4 cubic feet of interior volume offers bigger-than-S-Class-Benz hugeness, some safety systems that could come by default at this thin-air price stratum, especially adaptive cruise control, costs an extra $995. Value-wise, you’re spending for performance. Save the fact that even those don’t weigh an astonishing 6,781 pounds. or Manhattan, and that’s not an unusual sight. Sure, the fuel economy makes that sentence absurd, but so is the person who drives a Mercedes G-Wagen to work in L.A. That said, unlike a Hellcat, the TRX is actually very comfy as a daily driver. ![]() Michael Frankīoth the TRX’s 8,100-pound towing limit and 1,310 pounds of payload slightly trail the Ford’s 8,200- and 1,400-pound ratings, but again, if you’re paying for carting, this isn’t your rig, and neither is the Raptor-go get a Ram 2500 with its 4,010-pound payload for that. ![]() The 20 TRX is the wildest and loudest of desert-bashing off-road performance trucks, with 702 horsepower and a suspension bred for high-speed off roading. Paddle shifters allow flicking through the eight-speed transmission, and the closest (gas) competitor, the 450-horsepower Ford Raptor, simply cannot come close for zero-to-60 acceleration, nor is the Ford interior anywhere near as snazzy. With 11.8 inches of ground clearance and fully adjustable Bilstein dampers, little short of a sheer cliff face can stand in its way.īut let’s be honest: You’re buying, if you have the means, for scorching speed, and even at half throttle, the Hemi propels this beast at a scary-fast velocity. Or, for rock crawling, manually select four-wheel-low, which locks the rear differential and splits power 50/50 between the front and rear axles. Choose Baja mode, which changes transmission shifts, traction control settings, and adjusts the suspension for flying through the desert. We know that 99% of buyers will never let their bruiser play in a sandbox, yet the TRX still comes equipped for dirt. Even at idle, the five-inch dual-piped exhaust puffs the Ram’s “muscle truck” chest. Hit the start button and you’ll wake the neighbors. ![]() As is the case on-road, the TRX's Goodyear rubber reveals itself to have tons of grip and little scrub off-road, allowing you to make the most of the Ram's supercharged V-8.Before you ever engage ignition at the helm of the 20 TRX, the truck’s flat-bottomed steering wheel is a dead giveaway you’re here for performance, first, second, and likely fifth. It's incredibly compliant, simply erasing the terrain beneath the truck, and absorbing absolutely brutal impacts-like high-speed nose-first landings off of moguls-without transmitting any of the shock into the cabin. The engine obviously plays a large part in the speeds the Ram is capable of off-road, but the TRX's suspension deserves more of the credit. With the truck in Baja mode-one of eight on- and off-road drive modes-the TRX just eats up the terrain beneath you as you focus on getting from A to B in the fastest way possible. When let loose in its natural habitat of high desert scrub, deep washes, and sandy mountain switchbacks, the TRX comes alive in the same way a Porsche 911 does on a good mountain road. Like all good supercars, the 1500 TRX is in its element on a track-in this case, track meaning off-road. ![]()
